Welcome to the Ivy on the Square

If only this sunny weather was the norm I would not feel the need to sit idle outside  basking in the sunshine all the hours God gave me, but it is a fickle commodity in these parts and tomorrow might easily be grey and cold well with me wrapped up and the heating on.
In days of yore when I was but a stripling youth,  we had around May what were called heat waves when the weather was sunny and hot for a prolonged number of days, maybe even a fortnight.  These heat waves occurred about exam time when It was difficult to appreciate them to the full. We don’t seem to have them nowadays, we get maybe two or three days in a row when it’s lovely and then we pay for it with a week of unseasonable weather. I speak from a Scottish perspective.

Anyway it was a sunny but coolish walk down to the Ivy on the Square for the  monthly coffee with my school friend. We are so well known there now that we are greeted by the door staff and the waiter brings our toast and coffee without us saying anything and when we’ve eaten all the toast they bring us more. We are the last of the big spenders!

Having negotiated a packed city centre to get home, I am now sitting on the patio in the sunshine for a second day listening to the background chatter of the sea of humanity over the railings on the Meadows most are supine but there’s  always the small cohort of males kicking a ball about and of course the ubiquitous barbecues are starting up.
