A day in ruins

Trier is one of the oldest, if not the oldest,  cities in Germany with a sizeable Roman presence between 100 to 200 AD.

Today we visited some of the remains starting with the Porta Nigra which our room looks out onto (T has exceeded himself with the bookings he has made for rooms with views this trip).  We climbed to the top and enjoyed exploring the different parts and views, including one of our hotel (extra).

This was followed by a visit to a very large amphitheatre. The scale of the arena  was amazing and you could also walk underneath it which was fascinating.

We repaired back to our hotel for a bagel & siesta and then headed back out to visit see the remains of what was a very large Roman baths and walked back along the Mosel.

A interesting day. Tomorrow will have a slightly different focus.
