Volunteering Day
I had my first volunteering session today. So after breakfast with Andy and Merlin I went off rucksack in hand to meet the Head Gardener of our local sustainability centre and the rest of the Tuesday volunteer team. I felt a little nervous but was made very welcome by the team who went out of their way to explain where to find the tools and materials we needed, and guide me on how to do the tasks we’d been given. Today that included working in the fruit cages to put down wood ash, manure and wood chip. Part way through we had a tea break which included homemade cake, and time to chat more fully with the other volunteers - a friendly and interesting group of people. The weather was perfect - blue sky and warm sunshine. So, all in all it was a good session.
Later in the day I popped to the allotment to try out a new compost thermometer. I discovered my compost heaps are not very warm inside so I’ll have to think of a way to get them hotter.
Hoping your day has gone smoothly.
