Along the river
Another beautiful day! My brother picked me up at 9am and we set off towards Reading, stopping off at the lovely village of Sonning, where there's a small bridge over the Thames. We had a wander there and then moved on to Henley, the Thames-side town where my family came from. We'd arranged to call in to see a friend who had known my grandfather in their youth - she's now 88 and still as lively as ever!
Next we drove to Dorchester and after a look about the place moved on to Shillingford, also on the Thames, where we had a sandwich and a cuppa on the terrace at the Shillingford Bridge Hotel, overlooking the river. A walk along the river where I enjoyed a conversation with a couple of rather interesting houseboat owners, then it was on to Ewelme to see the watercress beds - my extra today - then to Stoke Row, a Chiltern village where my great-great-grandfather lived for a while and where there's the most amazing Maharajahs's Well - a very strange sight in a small country village - http://www.maharajahswell.org.uk/. This is my Blip today.
Back to Henley, a quick stop for an ice-cream and then returning to my sister's along a busy motorway. A really wonderful day out!
