Compaction

The lake water was so clear today, although not very deep at the edges, it is often cloudy and the bottom not visible. Diffracted sunlight bounced off the rocks underwater making interesting patterns.

It was the patterns in the dried reeds, pushed against the shore, that attracted me more today. I liked the diagonal lines running in alternating directions, with just enough confusion to keep it random.

Extra: Shoveler. I have only one previously recorded sighting of Northern Shovelers, last year. I thought they were mallards at first, but the huge beak puzzled me. Strangely, there were turtles out on logs, despite the cold.
