Through the city and
the Mojave Desert to
Beatty, Nevada
~carliewired
We left Henderson, Nevada after breakfast making our way through Las Vegas with the GPS. I stopped north of Las Vegas on Hwy 95 to have al look at the snowy mountains to the west and the Mojave Desert landscape to the east. We noted the Joshua trees as an indicator of the Mojave Desert. It was a rather short hop with us arriving at our destination, Beatty, Nevada, before lunch.
Beatty is a gateway to Death Valley. National Park in California. Approaching this small town, we are reminded to watch for the wild donkeys that roam freely. I stopped to take a shot of the caution sign, then looked across the highway to the other side for my first view of two donkeys grazing. These are descendants of earlier pack animals used in mining. Now, they wander at will. I hope to get more photos of them.
We had our lunch in a restaurant near our motel, then cruised through an ice cream and souvenir shop. Feeling as if I needed some time with my feet up, we've taken our rest this afternoon with plans to go out for dinner later.
The weather is perfect today and we look for more of the same tomorrow as we drive into Death Valley National Park.
