The Waterside Inn
A lovely evening last night with our friends. Today we've moved on with tonight being the main 'treat' I'd arranged for W's big birthday; a meal at the three Michelin starred 'Waterside Inn' at Bray, with an overnight stay. It's a restaurant she has said for years she would like to try so this seemed like a good occasion. We are in the 'La Riviere' Suite which is really lovely and overlooks the River Thames; this is our view, and it's very kind of Heathrow Airport to shut down for the day so that they won't bother us with aeroplane noise.
We were a bit early to check in so decided to visit Windsor on the way over. Apart from a visit several years ago when we drove there, couldn't find a parking space anywhere so drove back out again without stopping, I've not been there for around 57 years. We didn't go in the castle as it would have cost £35 each and we didn't really have time to do it justice, so just had a wander round the town itself. Frankly, the whole place had a rather seedy feel to it with lots of empty shop units, cheap gift shops and down market chain stores. Unless we decide to look around the castle sometime I think I'll leave it another 57 years before I go back.
