Where have all the flowers gone?
My showcase camellia is very down on flowers this year as I think the heavy frosts have taken a toll on the buds. There are definitely more flowers to emerge but a lot are withered and will never open. Camellias are tougher than the Victorian gardeners who put the spectacular newly discovered bushes in glasshouses would have thought. They assumed they weren’t hardy but the plants are even if the flowers aren’t. Still the few we have are pretty.
Busy day; a walk, two long calls, some reading, various errands all ground to a halt when I tried to set up the new phone from my next job. I managed in opening the stupid little SIM tray to flick it across the kitchen into oblivion. After an hour of looking for it I gave up but Vikram when he came back found it hidden under the ice-cream maker, it must have pinged across the kitchen, hit a picture and lodged there.
I made a good supper of venison and coleslaw, sounds horrible but it was a recipe on the BBC Food website and was totally delicious.
We didn’t feel up to another ep of Adolescence so watched the latest White Lotus which was tense, superbly shot but ultimately nothing happened. Which just prolongs the agony as one knows it’s all about to blow eventually.
Started reading Dream Count by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche whose work I love
