A weekend to relax in

A relatively quiet day, punctuated by the odd chore, and trying too hard to get my taxes done in one go. I failed with that, not least because the single T4 I received was incorrect. As it came from the government, this could be a legitimate pain in the bum. Thankfully, it is not for a large amount; however, while I am a firm believer in paying taxes, I am also a firm believer in not paying taxes for money I haven’t actually been paid.

Other than that, Ottawacker Jr. is making the most of his recovery. He managed to score an invite to Wyatt’s for dinner, then they went to the cinema to watch Dogman. He’s already seen it, so I can only assume the thrill was staying out late with a friend. He is still at an age where his friend’s mum dripped him home afterwards, so there can be few complaints.

Had a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon; all OK, but he thinks I need to purchase a blood pressure machine to monitor myself. Why? Because he thinks I am being over-medicated. I felt like telling him that the lugubrious face has nothing to do with low blood pressure, and everything to do with Liverpool Football Club.

While Ottawacker Jr. was out “at the movies”, Mrs. Ottawacker and I watched a Mike Leigh film called Life Is Sweet, with a number of our favourite British actors in it: Jim Broadbent, Timothy Spall, Jane Horrocks, and Alison Steadman. It was the sort of film I would have watched in 1990, when it was made, and then discussed the life out of it. In 2025, I just made a loud raspberry at the end. “Exactly,” said Mrs. Ottawacker. Then we carried on watching Get Back, and we were astounded at the brilliance of the documentary. I’m not a huge fan of The Beatles, but I am loving this. They are so… human.
