The problem with days like these is…

The problem with identifying too closely with a football team is a day like today. I’ll be the first to admit that Liverpool fans have, in general, had it easy. But the problem (and the blessing) with football is that there is always another match to bollix you up (conversely, to help cheer you up when the bollixing up has already happened). Anyway, after Tuesday’s meek exit against PSG (at least, the penalty shot-out was meek), today there was a final to look forward to: the Carabao (League) Cup against Newcastle. It was abject.

It’s not so much that we lost (although that has something to do with it), it is that we lost (a) to another sportswashing franchise, and (b) that we were so abjectly appalling. Newcastle were the better team throughout: they wanted it more, they were smarter in their game plan, and they deserved it. We got what we deserved too: nothing. Having watched the football we have played all season and watched us win comfortably from the start, it is a bit hard to understand why we are struggling a bit now. For me, the manager has not rotated his players enough; a lot of them are “leggy”. Then, of course, there is the Mo Salah conundrum. There were a number of weird refereeing decisions – but we lost because we were crap…

Anyway, I watched the game on my silent computer and then cancelled DAZN, because we’re no longer in any of the competitions it shows. Then I got back to work on my self-imposed chore list. I am in a bit of a bad mood, so probably best I isolate myself for a little while.

Am due to take in the laptop for repairs tomorrow. It really is weird working in silence…
