Too Cold for Shorts
We were up at 6:00 so we could leave home by 7:00 am. We had prepared everything we needed (clothes, chairs, blankets, coffee cups, etc) last night so we could leave on time. The trip to McLean was uneventful. We noticed Skylar was behind us on her way to work. She has an hour’s drive. It was very windy and in the mid 40s°F at game time. I tried taking photos but my fingers were frozen. I decided the ones I had would have to do. The game ended in a 0-0 tie. Brooklyn played offense rather than goalie. We met part of the team at Panera for lunch. We were blessed to get tables around the fireplace. We had five hours between games so we took our time eating until we’d warmed up. We drove to the second field and promptly took a nap. We still had time for a nice walk through the sports complex and adjoining neighborhood. It had warmed up a few degrees but was still too cold for those girls in the wind. Their legs looked windburned. Legging are not allowed which I think is a crazy rule. Brooklyn was goalie for the second games. She gave up one goal but our team scored twice to give us the win. The game ended in time for us to get to 5:00 Mass. It was a round church inside. The priest gave a wonderful homily. We had hoped to go to Alexandria for dinner. The restaurant was so full there were no parking spots. I am working hard to eat less so we’ll go to a place with a light menu closer to home. We survived the beltway, that was my main concern. Wishing you safe travels if you are out and about this weekend.
