An Ordnance Survey Trig Point

On Monday I blipped a rusty old roadside sign which I had tried to identify. I used Google image search (Lens) and one of the most popular ‘matches’ was an OS trig point ‘flush bracket’..which you can see in todays blip of a local trig point. I have added a close up shot of the actual bracket highlighted on the right of the shot…you can see how Google has tried to match them up!

I knew where this trig point was - so I went to get a shot of it. The serial number on the bracket dates it from the early 1920s to 1936

While I was there I also took the opportunity to photograph a rather fascinating structure - see extras.

This is in fact all that remains (above) ground of the old Boston Spa Royal Observer Corp (ROC) bunker. As recently as 2008 (I think) this hatch was ‘open’ and I have seen a photo of the inside - all that remains is the old crew bunk bed! At the top in the background of extra 1 you may be able to make out a piece of brick wall in the undergrowth..this is the remains of the aircraft observation post.

Another lovely sunny spring day...how much longer can this weather last?
