Across the hills
Saturday
Today we were driving across to visit Judy in Dore, on the western edge of Sheffield. As you can see from my blip, it was a lovely morning, resulting in a beautiful drive across the hills, and once we got into the Peak District area, it was clear that many people were taking advantage of this fine sunny Saturday morning to get out for a walk - car parks were full, and cars lined the sides of the roads. We arrived at Judy’s around 11.30, and it felt so sad and strange to go into the house, knowing there was no Peter there any more. We talked about the plans for the funeral next Thursday, and Judy showed us what she has written for the eulogy, which she has asked Roger to read at the funeral. We had some lunch, then around 2 pm Peter’s younger son, Ian, from his first marriage, arrived for the afternoon. Mark, the older son works as Assistant engineer on a luxury yacht in the south of France, and he is traveling over today. Ian was with Judy at the hospital when they received the devastating news of his death, and has continued to be very supportive and helpful since, going over every Saturday, and sometimes doing odd jobs for her. We went for a shortish walk in Ecclesall woods then returned to the house and continued to talk and share memories. Judy fixed us a nice dinner, and we left about 8.30 to return to Janet and John’s.
