Nicky and her Nikon

A frosty morning at Bushy Park

Last night I had a half baked idea to go to Bushy Park early this morning as the conditions looked great - sunny, frosty and maybe even some mist. When Gavin got up at 5.30am to go to work I decided to also get up and head out. I got to Bushy Park at 6.10am and then sat in the car waiting for the gates to open at 6.30am, I had forgotten they only open then.

I got in with 10 minutes to spare until sunrise, and set about taking some photos of the sun coming up over the frosty reeds edging the pond. There was so much frost, well it was -2C, and a thick mist too. It was freezing cold and after 45 minutes of taking photos I had to go sit in the car and warm up my hands. I met another photographer who was saying how cold it was yet it was forecast to be warm later, and then saw some others wearing shorts! Daft!

After my hands had warmed up I set out again with a longer lens and took some photos of the deer and birds. I liked the one in the extra, this fallow deer was still waking up after sleeping in the frost covered bracken. I saw quite a few deer with their ears covered in frost!

I was very pleased I went today as by the weekend sunrise will be after the gates are unlocked.

I got home in time for breakfast and then took Xena for a walk. It was very sunny today, quite a beautiful day that reached 14.5C so it felt like spring. there were more people wearing shorts in the woods (and no, they were not postmen!) Xena had another walk in the afternoon so I have done nearly 18,000 steps today. May this lovely weather continue...
