Painswick Rococo Garden

Thursday
We were leaving Janet’s today and heading up north to the Warrington area, to R’s sister Janet and husband John, and R’s Dad Bernard who lives just a few houses away. Initially, however, we took a bit of a detour to Painswick Rococo Gardens, a little way south of Gloucester. We had asked Janet if she’d like to come with us, but once again she declined. The gardens are especially known at this time of year for their approximately 5 million snowdrops. Unfortunately, however, these were past their best, but there was still a lot of beauty,, with hellebores, crocus and daffodils. The gardens were designed in the 1740s as an English country gentleman’s pleasure garden, a place for holding intimate garden parties. Since 1984 the Garden has been rescued from near ruin and restored to its former glory. Having explored the gardens, we had some lunch in their cafe, before journeying up north.
