Joe Tree Day 2025
Last year the Ukrainian community in Stirling approached the local third sector organisation Treelink for support to plant a garden of reflection, to commemorate and remember the ongoing struggles of the Ukrainian people affected by the war.
On Saturday 22nd February 30 trees were planted at Mote Hill by local Ukrainian families, friends and supporters. The tree selection include lilacs, guelder roses and crab apples.
One of the most moving moments during the tree planting was when a woman, now living in Stirling, placed the keys to her ruined home in Mariupol in the ground where a tree was then planted. She will never go back to Ukraine and has made her home here.
The text on the plaque reads:
This garden was planted on February 22, 2025 as a symbol of peace and rebirth.
In memory of all those who lost their lives in Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
Gratitude to the people of Stirling and Scotland for their support and solidarity with Ukraine.
After yesterday’s shocking meeting at the White House, marking Joe Tree Day 2025 with trees planted by Ukrainian families who have come to live locally seems appropriate. Long may they, and the trees, flourish. And long may Blip flourish too. Thank you, Joe, for your brilliant idea.
