Rain, Steam And Speed (And Mist)
After early morning rain and a hotel cooked breakfast, we headed for nearby Coleton Fishacre, the National Trust property that was the home of the D’Oyley Carte family from the mid-1920s to the late 1940s.
The forecast was for the sun to break through but a persistent mist shrouded the house and gardens (see extra) the whole time we were there.
The interior is a very homely art deco affair with helpful guides happy to share their enthusiasm for the house and family. Unfortunately the apparently stunning views of the sea and coastline will have to wait for another visit.
Afterwards we had a drive down to Kingswear then back to Broadsands for a wander along the beach and headland.
Just as we arrived the steam train that runs down the coast to Dartmouth put in an appearance and the sun made a brief belated breakthrough shortly afterwards.
I gave the train a bit of vintage treatment.
