Stayin’ Alive

Mrs C and I signed up for the “Our Future Health” programme, which aims to help people live longer in the future by analysing details of up to 5M participants to find possible causes of diseases that currently affect us - diabetes, heart disease, dementia, etc.
We completed a detailed online questionnaire about our lifestyle and physical and mental health (and that of our family) before attending the mobile clinic in Asda car park for a sample of blood and a few measurements to be taken.
We will not get any immediate feedback, but they might contact us in the future if a trend is revealed and our samples fall into that category. In other words, ‘you may be susceptible to “X,Y,Z” and might want to get it checked out with your GP’. Always good to get a heads up on that sort of thing but I can’t help thinking the research will only have limited impact on our own longevity.
Worth doing though - anything that helps prevent disease is a good thing for the NHS. I think we get a £10 shopping voucher as well, though that is just a nice bonus and not a motivating reason to take part in the programme.
Hopefully, we’ll both still be around to see what conclusions they are able to draw after all the data has been analysed…
