Crocus Day
A perfect day for enjoying them. It really is the peak flowering time here, the relatively cold but sunny weather is ideal as the flowers last longer if it's cold but need sun to open them. Today I took around sixty pots of them to the AGS meeting in Bangor where by far our biggest audience for years enjoyed both an excellent talk on finding and conserving some of Britain's rare alpine plants. The crocuses were shown much love too :-) An extra of just some of the many.
So most of my day was about preparing and getting there. Sue dropped by to see the flowers this morning and I set off after lunch, leaving time to go the longer way through the mountains. I stopped at Tan Y Bwlch to give the dogs a walk before going on to meet Chris who'd set off soon after 7am, using public transport to get there for a lunchtime concert where he met up with a friend.
After the meeting, so yes, 930pm we had an 'entertaining' hour after I managed to lock the car keys in the car ... with the dogs. It's not an easy thing to do but in the dark I had dropped the keys in the boot of the car and when a heavy bag rested on them the pressure activated the locking. However, I thought that I'd just leant against the car and squeezed the keys but when I shut the boot, disaster. The RAC don't attend for keys locked in car unless someone is locked inside but thankfully, dogs also count, even on cold winter nights. The man who came was not optimistic but as one door, although locked, was not fully closed, he was able to get a wire device in and flick the door catch release ... but the door wouldn't open so a locksmith was called. £200 charge :-(
Postscript. As the RAC man prepared to leave us waiting for the locksmith I tried the door ... and it opened. A flood of relief :-) All of us somewhat disbelieving. Do you believe in miracles?
