Let It Flow
About three weeks ago I blipped one of the garage taps that had suffered in the icy weather. After a gentle reminder last week, the plumber phoned this morning to see if we were in as there had been a cancellation. Not only could they do the tap, but they would also do the overdue boiler and gas fire service. I was out at PT, but Mrs C was in so I told him to head on round!
We decided to replace both taps, rather than just the broken one as it seemed false economy not to do so. I also took advantage of the water being turned off to recharge the expansion gap in the hot water cylinder - not been done for some time and definitely needed doing.
At the end of the day, we have hot and cold water restored to the garage and fully serviced fire and boiler. Plumber was quite scathing about heat pumps - said you needed a modern house that was very well sealed to stand even a fighting chance of them working. And if the temperature drops too low, you will probably need an additional source of heating to keep warm.
The good news is that our boiler has many years service left in it so no need to worry about it just yet…
