Baking Day
I woke up before dawn. Hubby was still in a deep sleep so I moved to the rec room and read blip journals. After breakfast, we worked on laundry. I had a small grocery list so I could bake before we left. Hubby had to go to the jeweler’s to get paperwork so he could insure my anniversary ring. He took the list with him. You have probably heard about bird flu in the U.S. It has certainly affected the egg supply and prices. Our store only had 6-packs. I needed 14 eggs for today’s recipes. I knew my sister does not like maple flavored sausage so I asked hubby not to get those. I am highly allergic to an unknown ingredient in some store bought sausage so I never pay attention to what is offered. He bought brown sugar honey flavored (the only other links they had) - when cooked they smelled like maple and just wouldn’t work with my recipe. Luckily we have an Aldi’s only a few miles away. He picked up plain country sausage patties. The recipes were both easy; the long pole on the tent was cutting up all the veggies for the sausage, eggs, cheese and vegetables breakfast casserole. The sausage cooked while I chopped and melted butter for the other recipe. Of course it boiled over so everything stopped while I cleaned up the greasy mess. I saw a recipe for Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread and simply had to try it. I predict a tiny slice will be enough with breakfast. But I think the crew will enjoy both results of my day’s labor. Dusting is my last job of the day; my least favorite housework. Hubby vacuumed upstairs and is waiting for me before he finishes this level. If I feel industrious, I will probably scrub the kitchen. Wishing you minimal housework on your agenda. Stay safe. Thanks for your visit. “Baking is about multi-tasking and precision.” – Lorraine Pascale
