Grumpy Old Man

Cold and wet

A totally different day today. I hope it's not a sign of what February's going to be like. Wet, cold and with a threat of wind. We did the usual anyway, down to the pier for fresh fish and then to the library. I'm not sure why I continue to go to the library when I have so many of my own books to read or re-read. Maybe I should limit myself to a couple of books rather than the five I borrowed today.

Not a great day for an outdoor Blip and I've picked up a bug somewhere, so I'm not in the mood for wandering around in the rain! So today it's a picture of my four Michael Palin diaries. I think I've read the first three, but not the latest one yet. The latest takes us up to 2009; I wonder when the next one will appear - he is 81!

Did a bit of reading this afternoon - not Michael Palin, but Geoffrey Fletcher - I have a couple of his London books and enjoy them. My current read is 'London's River', published in 1966. He hates the loss of so many of London's old buildings and their replacement by modern rubbish - he'd have a fit if he was alive today!

Now I must get on with finding a poem to read out at the next u3a Poetry Group meeting on Tuesday - the subject is 'Fantastic Places'. It will be interesting to see how members treat that word - places of fantasy, or just lovely places. We'll see!

Quote of the Day: 'Often bumpy roads lead to beautiful places.' - Dave Martinez.
