El Retiro Park
Back to spring sunshine today. A shortish walk to the third of the main art galleries in Spain, the Thyssen-Bornemisz, easily the best with a superb collection from the 13th to the 20th century. Smaller and than the Prado, quieter too. Originally a private collection it was acquired by Spain in the early 1990s after the Getty Museum turned it down.
I spent the rest of the day in the Royal Botanical Garden where I spotted the cyclamen (extra), and El Retiro Park with its impressive Monument to King Alfonso X11.
By 6pm I was pretty much done, however this my last day in Madrid so I made a brief visit to the outside of the Royal Palace and the cathedral de Santa María la Real de Alumenda.
Looking forward to a relaxing train journey tomorrow.
