Grand Old Viking Centuries

A windy morning with light showers.  The winds eased, thankfully the showers did too.  Calm tonight, but more rain. 

Another day working on the toon essykert, same crew.  More black bag waste around Lerwick, but with it being Up Helly Aa day, we started early to avoid the morning procession.  Walkies with Sammy after work, popped by Madeline's.  Picked up friend Julie, we met Laura and Shaun in town for the main Up Helly Aa procession this evening.  Feet up before bed. 

Lerwick Up Helly Aa, the biggest of them all.  The main squad are the Vikings in the Jarl Squad, they've had a busy day visiting various places around town, and entertaining locals and visitors.  The other squads dress up and do silly sketch acts in the party halls tonight.  LUHA has finally caught up, now seeing women in the squads, including this lasses in the Jarl Squad.  The celebrations are old traditions, celebrating the return of the light after the winter solstice.  Hope they all have a great night, a long night partying until 8-9am tomorrow, if not longer.  The Jarl Squad walking along Lower Hillhead, Lerwick.
