Sunny Sands beach Folkestone

We had an unexpected free day as the renovations of the utility room have been delayed. The may start tomorrow, we don’t know yet.

Susan suggested we went to Folkestone for a walk, coffee and lunch. Good idea except for the gale force winds. It was hard work waking into it towards Steep Street cafe and the British Lion pub (excellent boozy beef stew).

I was expecting to Leas to be even harder going. Fortunately, much of the way was sheltered by wind streamlined trees. Dropping down to Sandgate we turned back to Folkestone along the seafront.

With the wind at our backs we fairly wizzed along, sometimes unbalanced by stronger gusts and battered by sharp flurries of rain by a shower racing up the Channel. (see extra)

The upper walkway of the Harbour Arm was understandably closed so we made our way back to the car and home. The plaque describing the mermaid in the main shot asserts she was modelled on a local Folkestone lady. She was: https://www.creativefolkestone.org.uk/artists/cornelia-parker/

A grand if windswept day out

At least there was no need to dry out when we got home like we did yesterday.

Many moving words and images to commemorate and remember Holocaust Day. I understand my dad was involved in liberating some of the camps. I don’t know which as he barely talked about it. I must learn more about his war service. Too late, of course, to ask him now.
