Only Fools And Horses
It’s been a long - though not unproductive - day. I booked tickets to see the Only Fools and Horses musical when the U.K. tour was first announced in November 2023. I went for a matinee performance at Venue Cymru in Llandudno with the idea that we could be there and back in a day and fit in a visit to mother and sister at the same time. Back then, I had no inkling that by the time we got to the due date, mum would be in a home and sister would have spent most of last year in hospital!
We left Kendal at a reasonable time but a sudden heavy hail storm at Walton Summit on the M6 caused accidents on both southbound and northbound carriageways, which led to long queues and delays. It became obvious we weren’t going to be able to fit in visits to relatives if we wanted to have a spot of lunch before the show.
It was a bit of a strange show. It was like they’d tried to condense 22 years of the TV show into a two hour show, and then added song and dance routines on top. Despite the cast delivering the characters, songs, dance routines and jokes with great aplomb and enthusiasm, it almost felt like they were trying too hard to fit everything in. Having said that, I did enjoy it and am glad I’ve seen it. Probably not one to see again though.
With my cold becoming worse, we decided to abandon plans to eat out and headed home. Though we did fit in a visit to M&S at Cheshire Oaks (our route home went right past it) and were able to pick up some items of clothing that weren’t stocked in the Kendal store as it’s too small.
Arrived home twelve hours after setting off and had a Chinese takeaway for tea to compensate for not eating out. Not to mention that I was neither in the mood or state of health to start cooking at that time!
Will try and fit in a separate visit to mum later in the week, once this cold clears up…
