In A Station
Feeling pretty crap today as this cold I’ve picked up got worse overnight. Nonetheless, I had to rouse myself and get down to Carnforth station, where we were going to take publicity photos for the play. Didn’t really feel up to driving, but Mrs C kindly volunteered to take me and said she’d amuse herself until we were finished.
Carnforth station was, of course, the setting for “Brief Encounter” so the heritage centre and refreshment rooms provided plenty of suitable backdrops for the photos. Didn’t know whether to feel flattered or dismayed when I was told that most of what I was wearing was suitable for the old man I am playing! The addition of a scruffy cardigan from the costume store was all that was needed to complete the illusion. It certainly left me wondering if I needed to ditch a few items from my wardrobe!
After a few shots in the refreshment room, we moved outside, where I was very grateful for that cardigan as it was pretty Baltic out there. I felt sorry for the young girl whose character required her to be dressed in a skimpy top with a bare midriff! After ten minutes or so, she was turning blue and the rest of us were shivering, so the director relented and allowed us to wear coats and hats for the remainder of the shoot.
Despite not feeling well, it was an interesting process and the hour just flew by. I look forward to seeing the finished pictures once they have been processed and edited.
But I’m very grateful now to be back at home with a blanket and a hot water bottle. Really hoping I start feeling better soon. On the plus side, I’m not quite as snotty as I was, which is a good thing as tissue supplies are running low…
