Blowin’ In The Wind

Once again, we seem to have escaped the worst of the storm. When I went out to the gym it was blowy, but not so bad that it affected driving or walking. I only saw a few small branches on the ground and, apart from the odd bits of rubbish whirling around, it didn’t seem at all bad.
On the way home, however, traffic had slowed to a crawl on Aynam Road, past the flood defence works. No sign of anyone on site - probably not the best day for using cranes or pouring concrete - but the barriers that surround it had toppled over onto the only lane that traffic can use. We could get past by mounting the pavement, but that state of affairs obviously could not continue.
I couldn’t stop then, so walked down after lunch to see what had been done to put things right. It looked like no one from the flood works contractors had put in an appearance, and the police/council had solved the issue by merely flipping the fallen barriers through 180 degrees and putting some cones out! Traffic was flowing freely, so it looks like it was an effective solution.
The wind is easing now so I don’t think there will be any more issues overnight. We’re heading off to Chester and North Wales tomorrow, and the storm should be fully past by then.
Hoping that wherever you are in the U.K., you’ve managed to survive Storm Eowyn…
