The calm after the storm
Well that was some storm yesterday! We woke to a calm morning, though the original warning had carried over into today. Not a great time yesterday when the power went off around 4pm, but fortunately it came on again at 7.40 this morning, in spite of being warned that it could be off until 11pm!
I drove down to the seafront at nine this morning to photograph the devastation and mess left after the storm, but to my surprise it was as clean as a whistle! Well almost - still some seaweed on the grass and on some of the pavements, but the roads were swept and all was safe and sound! Well done all the council workers!
My Blip is much more positive than I intended as the sea was calm, the mountains covered in snow and the sun was out! Just a normal January day, in fact, but without the wind and rain!!
We returned to the town centre later on and to our surprise the fish stall on the pier was open and Mrs M was able to buy fish. Maybe it's not quite as fresh as we'd supposed as I can't imagine any fishermen going out in that! The library was closed though, as a bad day was expected. Tesco was closed as they were getting rid of all their frozen and chilled food owing to the power cut. Such a shame as it was probably all OK after just eleven hours without electricity, but I can understand that they can take no chances.
Overall I think we got off very lightly compared with many other places - parts of Ireland and SW Scotland. Next one's coming on Sunday, they say! Now I must backBlip for yesterday.
