More cranes

Another crane appeared in the view from the South windows yesterday; went to investigate in the morning. There's a mobile crane on the N side of St Andrews Square, in extra.  It was lifting post crane parts over the buildings in the background onto a site that's been cut out off N St Andrew Lane. Later in the afternoon we watched the riggers stringing the cables on it.

Out in the afternoon to go to Timpson's to get a watch battery fitted; most of my watches have long ago run down their batteries and been neglected, but sometimes it's useful to have the time on your wrist, and this one also serves as jewelry. Went on from the station out of the Market Street entrance and up the hill (Jeffrey St) where there is a new set of steps down at Edinburgh Gin to the Royal Mile.

Fewer tourists than at most seasons; walked past Parliament then up the Cowgate. Had been meaning to go all the way through, but found it blocked off by the bomb squad , so turned back towards Calton Road.

Picked up the watch, saw that the mobile crane on the Square was packing itself down. Later, from our windows again, we saw the last rigger making his way down the first of the many ladders from the cab of the post crane.
