Garden ornament?
Our regular day for a garden center visit for a wander looking for a blip and of course coffee and cake. Today it was Houghton Hall at Carlisle. When we entered I expected things to be back to normal after Christmas. How wrong can you be? Normally we head for the cafe for coffee and a chat first. Today the route to the cafe was along a passage taped off from where the stands would normally be. The carpet was being taken up! It seems the place is being given a refurb.
Outside was as bad, many empty stands and nothing in flower, well a couple of hellebores and not much else. There was quite a large display of pots, sculpture etc. Almost hidden away right at the top there was a display of these mushroom shaped ornaments (I call the ornaments because somebody must use them as such). The top of the mushroom were modeled as various characters. Some had the character inscribed as part of the design e.g. "The Boxer". This one didn't so I assume it is intended to be a school boy complete with cap.
