Winter Aconite ( Eranthis hyemalis )
While spending the afternoon with Kanyl as usual I had a look round the garden for potential blips. As with almost everywhere there was little of interest. The Aconite then caught my eye.
Aconite are a welcome splash of colour in winter's dark days. They flower in winter because their natural habitat is deciduous woodland. Winter is the time of year when most light reaches the forest floor. After flowering the plant dies back to the tubers and waits for the next winter.
