Apples and Pears
Thanks for all your comments on my foray into sewing, and on button collections - it’s fascinating how they hold memories for so many of us.
An early start on an icy morning to attend a pruning course. The sun on the frosty slopes of the South Downs was such a beautiful sight. It was a full day, mainly outside in the company of an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher and eight fellow students. We learned about the pruning of a wide range of plants including fruit trees and bushes, and were able to try our hands at pruning in the extensive gardens surrounding the college. I’m now eager to get to the allotment to try out my newly acquired knowledge. As well as all the usual winter pruning I have some restorative pruning to try on some espaliered apple trees which have got out of hand!
I’m most grateful to Andy for a warming homemade curry when I returned at the end of the day.
My blip is of one of the many trained fruit ‘forms in the walled garden at the college. In extras - the frosty Downs and a peak into one of the Victorian glass houses in the walled garden.
