LIFE!!!

snowing

It rarely snows here any more, so I only half-believed the weather forecast, but was excited this morning to look out and see that it had been right this time. Not a lot of snow, to be sure, but enough to make everything look beautiful and to turn the landscape more monochrome than green.

My walk today started as a quest for a missing parcel, which had been marked as "delivered" somewhere in our postcode. I just had to search for the doorstep in the very murky photo provided by Yodel. This took me up a track to some neighbouring cottages with no luck...and then I met some other neighbours who were off to start a bonfire. I showed them the photo and they recognised it as belonging to Neil, the gamekeeper. On I walked up to his cottage, only to meet him driving down the track in his ancient Land Rover with the parcel on the seat beside him. He carried on to our house, hoping to get a chat with D, and I carried on up the track and into the fields, where I was alone except for a few sheep.

I liked this old path between the two dykes. I liked the snowy silence up there. I liked the fact that soon the snow would melt and no-one would know I had ever walked up there at all.
