Cold night

While some saw the aurora last night we were covered in cloud till too late to wait up. Instead I saw my own bit of magic on waking up this morning.. my car had the most beautiful frost star on the bonnet.. it was almost exactly centred on the bonnet and looked beautiful.. in the meantime the frost on the roof was a totally different shape.. isn't ice formation astonishing!!? The long fronds on the roof reminded me somewhat of Kelp growing and on closer inspection perhaps like slightly unformed feathers.. but huge! 
It has been a sunny and wonderful looking day but remaining cold with frost still in the shadows at 3.15ish this pm.  My daughter is driving south today .. I think other than the low sunshine her journey should be dry which is good.. this weekend looks like we may all get snowed in.. we will see.
