Happy New Year

For the past three years I have been gigging on NYE so 1st January has usually been spent getting up late and then trying to sort out all the gear that was unceremoniously dumped when I got home in the wee small hours. Inevitably, I would also be suffering from some sort of cold/flu/covid bug.
But not this year. This bass was pictured in last year’s NYE blip but has not been seen in public since. It sits - with a light covering of dust - on its stand in the study and has done for most of the year.
But we did make it to midnight and then retired to bed for a - comparatively - early night. Which may explain why, in contrast to previous years, today has been a flurry of activity. Starting early with a tasty sausage bun, we then worked that off with a session in the gym. And after lunch we packed Christmas away. As I sit here waiting for tea to finish cooking, the tree, lights and all the decorations are safely back up in the loft, temporarily displaced furniture has been returned to its rightful place and (nearly) all the tinsel and glitter has been hoovered up. I’m allowing myself a slight feeling of smugness.
But I definitely miss gigging. If I have one resolution for this year, it is to get a band together and play some gigs. At the very least, turning 65 in June surely warrants a party?
