Well, that was an exciting ...
... end to the year.
We were booked into the banquet and dance at the Lodore Falls Hotel tonight, but with all the rain we've had over the past couple of days, the taxi firm rang us at 4.30 to say the road to the Lodore was flooded and there was no way through. Even the road round the lake was closed by the fire service. No way of getting there, we reluctantly stayed in our "comfies" and popped down to the Keswick Chippie (the Kingfisher) to pick up a take away.
No sooner had Andy & I got back, and were just unwrapping the fish & chips when the taxi firm rang us saying the road had reopened, and they'd come and pick us up in half an hour. Never have three people got ready so quickly. The road was still pretty flooded in places, but they got us through, and we arrived bang on 7pm for an excellent 6-course dinner, followed by dancing to a live - and excellent - band.
We managed to meet up with some friends we had met there last year too. Had a really enjoyable evening, and the taxi picked us up just after 1 and managed to get us home too.
The photo shows the three of us - a little hot from all the dancing, with our complimentary glass of fizz taken about a minute to midnight. I did take a few other pictures through the day, but the rain and wind were so intense, there wasn't a lot to take.
Happy New Year Blippers!
