C'était nul par moments*

That's what a little boy behind us said as we left the amphitheatre after this evening's performance. That was a little harsh -- it was the best piece of amateur theatre I've seen in a long time, and often had the audience rolling in the aisles. Perhaps some of the jokes went over his head.

The play was Roquepoul, written by near neighbour Georges Combes, alias JordiCé. The plot is too silly to explain but it involved a Cathar castle and a chatelaine who was organising her marriage. Perhaps the best parts were highly entertaining parodies of TV news, soap operas, porn films, and live reporting from the scene. "I need a neighbour, " said the reporter to the chatelaine. "Why? You can interview me -- it's my wedding." "No, on TV we always interview the neighbours."

* It was rubbish some of the time
