Over Yonder

Letting The Side Down (Again)

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

Oh, the shame of it.

I made it to 11pm on the 31st when I had to throw in the towel and took myself off to bed.

"What?! You've only got an hour to go!" said Caro.

It was true. I was trying to push through, but I could feel myself in that peculiar state of nodding off every few minutes.

Here's what happened. Mo was to come over for a roast and the Big Action Movie (as is tradition). You may remember we spent the years 2017-2021 working our way through the four Lethal Weapon movies.

Ah, good times.

So tonight's plan was to watch "Eraser" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and then begin our bold five year plan to work our way through the Bourne trilogy of five films*.

"We'll be done by 2029," I said.

Of course, first I had to acquire said roast, roast it, and also help Caro in making the house Mo-worthy. This is not as easy as it sounds in that Caro has exacting standards of cleanliness**.

AND. IN ADDITION TO THIS. I had been awake since 5am because of the cats AND did not manage to squeeze in a meaningful nap.

So, after the big meal and the big dessert*** I really struggled. Even with Jason Bourne driving across things and falling off things and stabbing a guy with a biro.

And so I did not make it to midnight. I fell short by 60 minutes. I took myself to Caro's bedroom and snuggled up with cats who were hiding from fireworks.

And I comforted myself that I was at least proving useful. Crashy certainly thought so as he snuggled up against my foot.

HAPPY 2025.

S.
