A day in the life

Marathon

Rain has entered the outdoors and I was only outside when I walked to the shop to get some bread and a couple of things for tomorrow.

Apart from lunch and some computer work during the afternoon nothing much has happened, I listened to a program on the radio for an hour and a half by a reporter on one of our big newspapers, about how some Swedish blueberry dealers (big business in Sweden) has tricked foreign workers from mainly Vietnam to work for them, promising good conditions and good wages but the workers ended up working under slavecontracts. A very upsetting report and unworthy of any government, anywhere.

In the evening I continued the gloom by watching the last bit of a play for the Swedish television, by Ingmar Bergman, partly based on his own youth. The play is called "Fanny and Alexander", written in 1982, containing all of the Swedish biggest actors, that's also why I wanted to see it again, it's so brilliantly made and photographed. It exists in several versions, the one I saw a long time ago was the standard version of almost two hours, this one, that I hadn't seen is five hours. I've split it up in three days, the last bit today. Long, a bit gloomy but brilliant.

The bad weather will continue tomorrow, which is good because I'm going to be cooking a large part of the day, a lamb steak and some potato gratin for New Years eve.
