Franklin Park Conservatory
Trying to catch up on my Christmas blips!
Monday 23 December
Laura needed to do some work on her laptop this morning, I needed to ice and decorate the Christmas cake, and R kindly did some grocery shopping for me. However, once those things were accomplished, the four of us set off for the afternoon and evening in Columbus, the state capital. Our first destination was Franklin Park Conservatory to see their seasonal display, based on the Nutcracker. Having seen the beautiful indoor display, we went for a walk outside, and stumbled across a temporary exhibit, Through the vines, a site-specific installation created by the artists at Applied Imagination, which invites guests to explore the sights and sounds of the four seasons as they walk through a series of vine arches made of natural plant materials, adorned with birds, animals, insects etc. (see extra). As you walked under the arches you also heard very clear recordings of bird song and other sounds of the forest. Then it was time for a fairly early dinner and drink at Northstar Cafe, before going to the Blue Jackets ice hockey game. This had been a particular request of Liam’s as he is a big sports fan. Laura also became quite a fan of ice hockey at university, as they had a very good
Ice hockey team. It was an exciting game against the Montreal Canadiens, with the Blue Jackets winning 5-4 in the closing minutes.
