Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2024 Monday — Date with Daughter

Our daughter, Deidre, is with us currently on the Central Coast celebrating the arrival of Christmas. My life forever changed on December 31, 1968 at 6:15 when our second baby was born and the nurses told me I had a daughter. Back in those days we didn't know before the birth what the gender of the baby would be. I wanted a daughter more than breath. My in-laws had assured me that this family didn't make girls. So you can imagine my surprise and delight.

When she was born we named her after my best friend -- Deidre Anne, (pronounced "Dee-dra"). My girlfriend used the nickname Dede -- so that's what we used for our daughter. She now prefers her legal name -- Deidre, and we usually call her Deed.

I was just 19 and Mr. Fun was 23 when she was born. My due date was December 28th. The doctor gave me an injection to induce labor (so she'd be born before midnight and we'd get the tax deduction) and 45 minutes later she was born. She's always been quick and on the move -- she is determined, direct, and focused (I'm not sure where she gets that). She has been surprising and delighting us ever since. She attended the “Messiah Sing Along” concert with us this past Saturday evening; she loves attending Morro Bay Pres Church with us; and today she and I had a rare lunch date together. It was lots of fun. We went to “Nate’s on Marsh.” It was our first time there. We were not disappointed.

From San Luis Obispo near
California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
