I woke up at 3am after only getting to sleep at 11pm last night to drive to Switzerland, so it has been a long and tiring day - and I wasn’t even doing the driving! The Eurotunnel was rather busy at 5.30am but thankfully we just missed the technical problem that occurred shortly after that, resulting in a 3 hour delay.
It got very foggy as we drove through Kent to the Eurotunnel at Folkestone, and the thick fog persisted into France for a few hours before clearing into bright sunshine and blue skies. It was very cold in France, and when we stopped to let Xena out at various places on our journey there was often still frost in the ground with a temperature of 2C by mid morning. The fog returned after lunch but then we had a pretty sunset through the foggy skies.
It was a very long day with much traffic due to an accident and later a broken down car. The boys’ BA flight was delayed by 1.5 hours due to the fog so they also got to Zurich later than expected. Not a great day for travelling! I slept a fair bit as I was still tired from all the Christmas preparations.
Tommy and Inca are now in Tasmania, on collecting their hired camper van they found they had been upgraded to an enormous beast of a vehicle, it was like driving a bus! They will have fun though.
We left home at 4.15 am and finally rolled in to the apartment garage 7.30 pm - the stops, traffic and 1 hour time difference adding to the driving time. Minutes after we arrived and unloaded the car the train bringing the boys and Anna from Zurich arrived at the station so I went to fetch them while Gavin quickly made a spaghetti bolognaise for supper.
I took this photo from the apartment terrace overlooking the village, its a very pretty scene at night.
