Above the clouds
We’d arranged to go for a walk up to Captain Cook’s monument with R this morning. We woke to thick fog and a temperature of 3C. S phoned her a few minutes before we needed to set off to the meeting point to suggest we put it off to the afternoon, and luckily she didn’t pick up . So we had to go anyway, drove in increasingly thick fog, and when we got to Great Ayton, the sun started shining through. It was glorious. Here’s the view when we got to the monument. It wasn’t even that busy up there.
It’s an easy walk: 2.3 km, 100 m climbing, 1 hour 10 minutes including a long time spent at the top taking photos and drinking coffee — for once we remembered to bring a flask. I was spoilt for choice for my blip: this is the alternative. https://www.flickr.com/photos/larecettedujour/54230011071/in/datetaken/
After saying goodbye to R, we stopped in Great Ayton and shared a large portion of haddock and chips in the car — too cold to sit outside. We know how to live! It was still foggy and miserable when we got back here, so we were glad we persisted.
This evening we’ve been for a swim and gym yet again — only 22 lengths this time. Supper was the rest of the soup we made yesterday before moving straight on to slivers of Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. There’s still nearly half of it left! We’ll have to freeze it or feed it to the birds.
