Once more unto the lake
No swim today, as I fancied a change and substituted a very brisk walk to the lake this afternoon: 3.5 km, 54 minutes. The fog has gone, and the sky has been lovely today.
Earlier, S had set off to visit his mum when he discovered a completely flat tyre. It was fine yesterday, or rather the Fiat had been telling us to check the tyre pressure and we’d been ignoring it, since our Fiat does this constantly and is lying 99% of the time. We’d certainly have noticed if it had been this flat yesterday though, warning or not. Of course it has no spare tyre, it’s a Fiat. After talking to the rental company, S got the supplied electric pump out of the boot and reinflated it. In the time it took to cook and eat lunch, it hadn’t lost any pressure, so he went out in it and it was fine. Must be a slow puncture.
This visit is easily the longest time I’ve spent in the UK since we left in 1997. It feels quite odd, since we’re in a kind of quiet limbo staying in S’s mum’s house. However, S has now booked flights back! Which means that in all likelihood we will spend New Year’s Eve in … an airport hotel.
Oh — nearly forgot! Here are my favourite books of 2024!
