Glenridding, Ullswater and Place Fell

Merry Christmas.

I hope you all had a wonderful day.

We did in Glenridding. The weather was unexpectedly brilliant. Following a dull start the clouds parted and we were treated to a lovely sunny Christmas Day.

After breakfast we donned our boot to walk Glenridding, up past the Youth Hostel and part of the way to Sticks Pass before returning along the opposite side of the valley where today’s blip was taken from. Birkhouse Moor, (extra) and the Helvellyn range poked their head out of whispy clouds giving fine views throughout the walk. There were a few people out enjoying a Christmas morning walk.

We returned in plenty of time to get ready for Christmas lunch which was a very fine meal indeed. An amusee bouche first, then scallops, sorbet, the turkey and Christmas pud, of course.

Instead of drifting to sleep after the King’s Speech and mince pies we walked out again, another couple of miles to Patterdale village and back in the quiet of the gathering evening. A snooze was had later back in the room.

There’s a buffet tonight and a quiz later.
