A bit of local history

I walk past this stone slab on a regular basis, it being on a disused grassy area between the supermarket and the bus stop home. 

It reminds me of a significant part of local history - the canal network, the clay pits and the brickworks, all of which had a significant impact on the area in the 19th century, and into the early 20th century.
