Electricity
Just before leaving to go to Barrow this morning, I received a text asking me to bring my “electrical skills” with me as Stuart’s bathroom light pull switch had broken and needed replacing. I chucked a couple of screwdrivers and a circuit tester into the car and, whilst I was driving through, Stu went out to buy a replacement switch.
With the electricity turned off by Stu (and checked by me!) I set to work. After I’d taken a picture of the wiring, the old switch was swiftly removed and the new one put in its place. Fortunately, despite it being a slightly different size, the mounting holes lined up with the old ones so no extra hole drilling was required. The electricity was turned back on and the switch ceremonially pulled. Whilst the extractor fan turned on and off as it should, the lights were permanently on.
After a few seconds head scratching, I looked at the photo I’d taken of the wiring and realised I’d put the two brown wires in the wrong way round. Swapped them over and all was good.
After a cup of coffee, I headed home. A gym session and doing the ironing provided the afternoon “entertainment”. We had to have a Chinese takeaway for tea because, despite buying all that food yesterday, neither of us thought to take anything out of the freezer this morning! Not that I was complaining you understand…
All of which meant this was the only photo I took today. Possibly I should have looked at it earlier. Before I started wiring the new switch might have been a good idea! Oh well, everything worked out fine in the end. I’m not sure about having “electrical skills” but I didn’t blow anything up or electrocute myself, so I’ll count that as a win!
