Lost In The Supermarket
This is a rare sight - a full fridge! It may not look very Christmassy but that’s because all turkey related comestibles are at the back of the shelves as they’re not needed until next week.
Today had always been planned to be the day we went Xmas food shopping, but I didn’t realise what an arduous task it was going to be. All started well with a visit to Plumgarths Farm Shop. They do a “Couples Meat for a Week Pack” which gives you seven different items, each just enough for two people. So that was most of next week’s meals sorted, just Xmas Day and Boxing Day to cater for.
Something much easier said than done. Unlike Plumgarths, the major supermarkets seem to think that everyone will be having hordes of relatives to eat with them at Christmas and everything is packed in containers labelled “Serves 6-8”! Even spreading that over a couple of days is too much food for just the two of us.
All of which meant that we were out for over four hours, visited four different supermarkets and still didn’t get everything we wanted! And some things had the very annoying “Best Before” date of 24th December (and weren’t suitable for freezing) so at least one more shopping expedition will be required. Which will probably mean going when everyone else is trying to get their last minute items.
And you can guarantee that we’ll discover on Christmas morning that we’ve forgotten something essential…
