Meteorological cattle.

It is said, in some rural parts, that when cattle lie down rain is on the way. Not sure how true that is, or how smart Irish Dexters are - but here are our neighbours (whom I have introduced before) and I watched them today, as, with thunder rumbling in the distance, they lay down close together in this very tight little knot just before the rain arrived.
It occurred to me that being in such a close-knit group might not be the best of preparations for a thunder storm and a possible lightning strike.
A cattle rancher in NSW in the community where I last lived, lost his entire herd of prize-winning pedigree Jersey cattle in a terrifyingly intense and prolonged electrical storm. He was devastated by the loss, but the members of the NSW Federation of pedigree Jersey owners got together and decided that each member would donate one animal and enable him to re-stock his ranch - a most uplifting story of generosity and typical Aussie mate-ship.
PS. This little group of Dexters weathered today's storm quite comfortably.
